A $5,000 grant from the Medford Schools Foundation, along with other funds, helped the science department at South Medford High School purchase equipment to enhance teaching in the areas of microscopes, data collection and DNA technology. Here, two students use micro-pippetors in the DNA fingerprinting lab. Technically called Gel Electrophoresis, students process the DNA, which results in a unique pattern of DNA fragments.
The
Medford Schools Foundation Board of Trustees has now posted the grant
application for the 2010-2011 school year. To view the application and
instructions, please go to the "Grants" tab.
For the fifth year, the award of grants by
the Foundation will directly support the students and teachers in the
Medford 549c schools in achieving excellence. Our mission and vision express
our commitment to expanding educational opportunities for 549c students,
especially as diminished funding had gradually reduced many programs. By
funding educationally worthy projects, the Foundation's commitment helps
"Make the Difference for our Students."
We invite all district staff to
participate in applying for a grant. Looking forward to what we can
accomplish together, the Foundation encourages a broad-based,
community-oriented approach that will directly support teachers and students in
achieving excellence in learning.
